Having had imparted so much wisdom upon you for this last (almost) month, I hope you’ll understand if, after tomorrow, it is somewhat diminished.
You see, after tomorrow’s surgery I will be wisdom toothless.
I will also be sporting some major chipmunk cheeks, heavily medicated, and hopefully being waited on hand and foot by Mr. Routine (although there is little likelihood of that).
I’m not one for elective surgery, but the dentist says my wisdom teeth are overcrowding my mouth, so it’s best to get them out before they become impacted. Besides, at 26 years old, I’m already considered “old” to be having the procedure done.
The whole reason I’ve been putting it off since I was about 19 is because of my fear of being “put under.” I like being in total control of my body, and now people I hardly know are going to tell me to count backwards from 10 to 1 and then procede to rip into my mouth as I sleep.
I’ve made Mr. Routine promise not to leave the waiting area – and going to get me a Valentines Day card is not a valid excuse.
So wish me luck, no complications, and a speedy recovery, please.
In the meantime, go visit my dad’s blog, my sister’s blog, or my mom’s blog (and put pressure on them to update)!
Here are the things I’ll be thinking of to calm my nerves tomorrow:
Ahhh… sweet, sweet babies!

You’ll be okay. I had mine taken out when I was 20. I know a few folks that elected NOT to go “under” while getting their wisdom teeth taken out… They all regretted it.
Here’s wishing a speedy recovery with little pain, lots of grrreat feel good pills, and jello. Jello helps. ’specially the red kind!

Awwww
You’ll be fine. You know, when I was a teenager, I went to the dentist and he told me that I didn’t have any wisdom teeth. All my friends had wisdom teeth (I didn’t know that they were really painful and that they would soon have to be extracted from my friends’ mouths)! I cried and asked the dentist, “Why? Why don’t I have wisdom teeth? Everyone else has them! Why not me???” LOL! OMG. Apparently, not only did I not have wisdom teeth…I didn’t have wisdom either!
Love the pics of your doggies! Toooooo cute! I’m such a dog person, it’s pathetic! While friends have photos of their children in their wallets, I pull out the puppy pics, the one where the pup learned how to swim…his first toy. Sooooooooo sad! LOL!
BTW, can I add your blog to my links? Ciao bella!

red – thanks! as much as I’m dreading going under, being awake for the procedure would, I think, be INSANE!! Yikes!! Looking forward to the red jello…
chrissy – of course you can add my blog to your links! thanks for thinking of me!! you’re on mine, too… hope that’s OK!
believe me, I’m with you on the dog thing… I go on and on about mine like people go on and on about their kids. I whip out photo albums if someone gives the slightest hint of interest!! glad to have a fellow doggy lover here!

Good luck! I will save the horror story for after your procedure!
Hope you have a speedy recovery and keep the percoset on hand!

Hey, my husband(age 39) will be having a wisdom tooth pulled next month so you’re not alone. Had 2 of mine done when I was 22. Had a REALLY good weekend thanks to the pain killers. No problems since. Love your dogs. We’ve got a shepherd/husky mix..King. I hate the name but he came with it. He acts more like a “Skippy”. Very much a part of the family. My 4 yr old son calls him his brother. With 2 sisters, he needs another boy on his side. Found you through Dying Arts.

lifelemons – yes, please do!
Joni – Thanks for visiting! It’s nice to know I’m not the only “geezer” getting my wisdom teeth out.
That’s so cute about your doggy being such a part of the family – I love it!

Oh… Happy Valentine’s Day!
February 14, 2007 at 1:55 pm
You certainly have a unique way to celebrate the day. I had mine pulled when I was about your age. I pretty much slept for the next four days.

Hope everything is going/went well! I’ll wait until that is confirmed before I share my own horror story! But definitely be glad that you were put under!

I had mine done at 21 and I am proud to report no horror stories.
So, well wishes for a speedy recovery and Happy Valentines Day from the Houkhouse!
FYI, Murphy dog, our little shitzu mix was purchased as the kids’ dog. A little over a year later, he thinks he’s the fifth child. Well, 6th if you count my hubby, which definitely counts some days.
Doggy babies are good stuff.

I had three of mine out about a year and a half ago and the other one out this last summer. If they say you are “old” to have them out – I am WAY over the hill! haha! (I’m 35 and they actually did tell me I was a lot older than most and my recovery would probably be slower – which it was.) For the first round I was under general anesthesia and it was fabulous!! I wouldn’t recommend any other way. Last summer, when I just had one out, I couldn’t justify spending the money on the ansthesia for one tooth but it was much easier to go to sleep and then wake up and it was done! My biggest advice is do EVERYTHING they tell you (or actually what they tell you NOT to do) for dry socket. Sometimes you can do everything right and still get it (which happened to me) but, trust me – you don’t want it! When I had the three out I didn’t have it but with the one I did and I had more pain with that one than with the other three combined! I pray that all goes well for you!

Hope all goes well and you have a speedy recovery.

Hope you are doing well! Pop those pills!
February 15, 2007 at 2:38 am
OH honey, I hope you are resting peacegully now, I have an extreme fear of being put under as well. I don’t want to do it! I am 30 and I only have half my wisdom teeth out, the other to are impacted into bone, and causing some bad cavities to the teeth in front. When I had my first two out I was pregnant and they couldn’t even use a strong novicane. Those two were easy, but the recovery was hard. Let me know how it goes becuase if you can do it maybe I can!

Thank you ALL for your support!! It has helped so much.
I am swollen and still a bit sore, but all 4 teeth are out and I’m home resting! I will post an update later… including the point that I almost chickened out and hurt my dentist’s feelings.
February 15, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Just checkin’ in on ya. Hope you’re well and not in too much pain!
February 15, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Glad to hear it all went well, and I hope you’re feeling better.
February 15, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Did they make you walk out the back door of the office? My oral surgeon did! He had a waiting room entrance and a back exit so as not to scare the people in the waiting room!!
February 19, 2007 at 4:34 pm
I know all went well… but I am so proud of you for going through with this. Even if you “Mr. Rotundo’ed” the dentist!
